We hereby announce this years Summer Math Camp, which will take place during August 2017. The goal of this summer camp is to give undergraduate students (Uppsala University) an idea of the nature of mathematical research. The camp will consists of a 4 weeks program where the students will attend lectures and do some research on small projects.
The 2017 Summer Math Camp will be focused on "Roots of univariate polynomials: Geometry, Algebra, Analysis, Dynamical Systems and Computer Simulations".
Prerequisites: The students accepted for this camp will primarily be undergraduates at Uppsala University. It is recommended (although not mandatory) that the potential candidates have some background knowledge in Several Variable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Programming Languages, and/or Matlab/Octave/Mathematica/Maple.
Any undergraduate student can apply for participation in the Summer Math Camp. The application should consist of:
For the accepted students the camp is free of charge, and upon completion the accepted students will each be provided with a one-time payment of 12,000 Swedish crowns. We will not accept any students we do not believe will be able to complete the course.
Selection process: All applications will be reviewed by the Organization Committee. The organizers may (if needed) interview the potential candidates. In the end 4-6 students will be accepted for the camp.
The applications should be sent to Jordi-Lluis Figueras or Martin Herschend no later than March 31 2017. The accepted students will be announced during May, and hence any potential interviews will be conducted in May before this.
